More people...................Sketching with pencil is rather messy, the pages all rub against each other and can produce some very untidy work. I can't wait to finish this sketchbook (I decided to discipline myself to finish my current sketchbook with Graphite) and get back to my usual Biro and tom bow markers!
The lady below on the left was one sketch that I gave a new approach because of a seat blocking my view, I had to sketch one half looking with only my left eye and then sketch the other half looking with my right eye. In the end the basic alignment and symmetry went a bit wrong.....oh well.
Hello Adebanji, found your blog through Katherine Tyrells Making a Mark Blog. I've only read the first few pages so far, so have a lot more to read yet. Just wanted to say thanks for sharing your art with us and keep up the good work. Your enthusiasm will see you through to good things in the future.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much John, for your warm and kind comments, they are highly appreciated. Just discovered your blog too and I think your watercolours are stunning-I'll be taking time to go through your work too!
ReplyDeleteDear Abebanji
ReplyDeleteSome wondeful drawing here. Thanks! Much enjoyment, beautiful drawing 'sur la vif' (on the hoof). Bravo.
Re- Grahite smudging in a sketchbook. I sometimes take a large bull-dog clip & some paper clips out into the field (ie before the sketches are fixed). Holding the page down firmly this way stops the pages from rubbing. Another handy trick is a few sheets of 'crystal' paper between the pages as this paper doesn't lift of the graphite.
Oh thnaks so much Adam! I need to know where I can get crystal paper as I have never heard of this before. Thanks for the advice.
ReplyDeleteYes that's the tricky part. Basically it's tracing paper but it's not made of petrol devrivatives but cis cellouse based. It has a shiny non sticky surface. Pastelists use it for transporting pastels about.
ReplyDeleteI like how you use graphite. It would be a shame to have your possibilities limited just because of a technical problem.
Sketch on!
Thanks for shedding more light on what the crystal paper is.
ReplyDeleteI really do love graphite and I think "paper was made for pencil" No other medium gives me the comfort of use on paper. They react like old time lovers. I hope I can continue sketching with graphite, I think I will start having alternate sketcbooks for biro and then graphite. Thanks for the encouragement!
Sorry Adam I mistakenly deleted your last comment so I am posting it here.
ReplyDeleteAdam: The pleasure's mine. Thanks for your art & blog.
Not a bad idea having separate pads, as biro goes through to the other side when a graphite drawing on the other side of a page is fixed.
Banji: Well said!
Adebanji- Glad to have found your blog. Welcome to Urban Sketchers. I'm going to link you to my site, brother.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rob! One good turn deserves another, linkin you up too!
ReplyDeleteWonderful sketches as always! I have tagged you in my blog (post "I've been tagged!") as an artist whose blog I love to visit frequently! You don't have to participate or anything. I just wanted to let you know :-).
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Adebanji, someone "tagged" me the other day on my blog, so I tagged you and mentioned you on my latest post. If you're interested, you can see how it works. Doesn't look too complicated.
ReplyDeleteHi adeganji! I found your blog through Alice Thompson's blog. I enjoyed looking at your paintings on your website. Love the train station series, especially Internal Congestion. Thanks for sharing your awesome artworks! Will visit your blog again.
ReplyDeleteThat's fine swhiteart, I just did a long tag thing last week. Thanks for the tag though!
ReplyDeleteRob thanks so much for the tag, I just did one last week. Thanks for the mention!
ReplyDeleteThanks Artbyakiko- I am happy you enjoyed looking at the paintings especially the train series. A lot of people like the "internal congestion" because it is a real life situation we face daily and they can relate to it.
