This commission came from the same lady who commissioned
Cutee. This was a real test because she only had a very small picture (5x7) of 4 of them standing in a row, I had to work with some extra effort to get this one done. I'm happy because today it was completed and verified!

This was done with sanguine and sepia dust with coloured pencils from the red/brown family on heavy watercolour paper.
Great portraits, Adebanji - sensitively done.
ReplyDeleteThanks Edward!
ReplyDeletethey almost look like photos, Very stricking.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dominique, I think portraits that have strong tonal ranges tend to look that way!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful portraits! No one can guess that you had to work from such a small ref photo.
ReplyDeleteamazing what can be done with one tone and the white of the paper. Nice.
ReplyDeleteHonestly...I really son't know what I can say about this. It's damn-near flawless, and you know I don't say that too often :p. The wisps of hair on the second and third young ladies are incredible, and it has a very strong photogenic quality. Again, amazing!
ReplyDeleteKarl, that was exactly what I discovered while working on this piece too! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSpider G, thanks, but it seems you only find it hard to criticize photo-realism, whether that's a plus or minus -you be the judge.
