Rain and Fog- Kings Road, Chelsea, Oil, 8" x 10", 2011

This is Kings Road with fog and rain, the typical London wet day. I basically love it! It's that part of Kings Road just before you get to Sloane's Square. When it doesn't rain, I miss the rain and when it does, I want it to stop. I think it's all about being human!

Special Quote
"The things you do at the start of a painting (from life or otherwise) will determine the entire course of your work. They make the difference between an achievement or an ordeal. This is about taking control right away. It is never enough just to be in the throes of inspiration. Before you lift a brush, take some time to think about what you intend to do. Notice certain things, make a few decisions, then start painting."-Richard Schmid on "The Big Moment"- Alla Prima Everything I know about Painting.

  2. Thanks Juliet! I have lived in London now for a total of 20 years out of my 39 years so far and it's almost part of me now-I love it as much as I get sick of it, but that's something I try to resolve in my work. Each place in a different lighting and mood, depicts something rather different. I never get tired!

  5. Estimado Adebanji:

  12. Wow! This is a lovely painting. You capture the rain so well. One can almost feel oneself there. Thanks for sharing.
Sorry for the ignorance, but what really are those zigzag lines on the road on either side?

  14. Superb, but how do you protect yourself from the rain - have you got an umbrella clip or something on that wonderful tripod pochade of yours?

  15. Thanks Patmosphere, for this piece I wasn't in the rain, I painted it in one sitting from a photo. But when I do paint outside in the rain I find shelter. I used to have two umbrellas that I either held in one hand or clipped to my easel but on both ocassions the rain almost ruined my painting and I was almost in tears.
Without shelter I won't paint in the rain. By shelter I mean sometimes a bus stop cover, a building balcony, from a window in a shop, or any sort of covering. Hope this helps.
