These are some sketches I have done at the
English National Ballet School, Hortensia Rd Chelsea. I first had the opportunity to sketch there while studying Portraiture at
The Heatherley's School of Fine Art, from 2003-2005. I really enjoyed the experience then and that's why I applied more recently to sketch there again.

To sketch constantly moving dancers is not an easy experience, it's far different form the people I sketch on the train, even though the train is moving. This was a real test of pure observation and speed. One just has to be alert and be content with whatever comes out of it.

SPECIAL QUOTE
While sketching the Ballet dancers I heard the Tutor say to the students, "If you don't work to your maximum everyday, you'll remain at the same level for years"
13Hi, Adebanji,
ReplyDeleteI love this kinds of quick sketches. They are the foundations and inspiration to create a great painting. Also, I love the tutor's say. So true. Thank you for sharing!
Kind regards, Sadami
Thanks Sadami! Sure-I have been thinking deeply on how to use some of these sketches for a well composed sequence painting of these dancers, but not sure on how to go about it yet. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteThey're lovely Adebanji! I think the combination of the red and black pens works really well too. What a great opportunity to draw figures in motion.
ReplyDeleteThanks Paul, it surely was a great opportunity!!!
ReplyDeletedo some football drawings.
ReplyDeleteThanks FBMS, I will!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great exercise. It's hard to get a figure from someone in motion....wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThanks Stephanie!
ReplyDeleteI love all of your ballet sketches! I draw tap dancers but work from my own photos. I have been wanting to attend a dance class for the sake of sketching during the class, but haven't done it yet. Seeing your wonderful sketches makes me think it is really something I should do. I know it will be a challenge but I think it would be a fun one - and informative too!
ReplyDeleteGreat Stacy!-I'm happy you are inspired!
