Painting of Diana (Stage 3)

I had the opportunity to paint from life today. I continued with another 3 hours on Diana.

I had to change the background completely because the other background wasn't showing the beauty of her long natural hair, and that was the very thing that prompted me to ask her to model for me in the first place. So I work like a robot to retouch the background and then settle for most of her garment and face. Still a long way to go but I'm enjoying the process.

Interesting to see your studio! You really pile the paint up on your palette!

Good call on changing the background....really sets off the models face and hair..She looks a bit like an angel now..=]

Yes Robin, you are right she does have somewhat of a angels appearance now! Hope I don't alter this but keep it going in this direction.

The paint has been piled on for a while now only the top parts are still fresh.

Yes indeed, the angel is coming to life on your canvas...looking good. And it is interesting to see behind the scenes. I simply can't work on top of old paints...I use these five cent plastic plates and chunk em. I just posted 22 of my beetles, but I think your subject is a lot more interesting.

Thanks James! I only keep these colours like this as it entices me to paint and to be a little bit more liberal with paint!

Need to check your beetles out, no subject is more interesting-it's never what we paint but how we paint what we paint that matters.

Diane's hair is certainly highlighted now that you've changed the background. Not what we paint but how we paint huh? Darn, I'll have to chuck that experimental painting with my toe project.

It's great to see your painting process on this one. Looking good!
You sure put those long bus rides to the best possible use...super sketches.

Hey Sheila, Don't abandon your experiments they are useful, I experiment too. But there's always this want of a new subject-and it can drain us as artists. I always feel that if we put our lives into anything we do and paint with passion and full spirit, it will show in what we do, and people will apreciate it.

Thanks Dean!

The new background definitely brings up her beautiful hair more. It is so beautiful, Adebanji. I can't wait to see how this painting develops.

Thanks Akiko! I'm hoping I keep it going in the right direction and also to paint a bit more slowly next time.
