Sketches on the train and tube in January III

Today I managed to sketch myself by looking in the train window reflections and just one more page. I had to do the other sketch in Biro as my lead from the mechanical pencil finished with all the dark stroking. I'll continue all other sketches in Biro from now onwards as I approach a new sketchbook.

I like the self portrait very much. The shift in media actually creates a neat effect, and focuses us back up on you. wonderful work as always. plus I'm in awe you can sketch on a moving train. :-D

I very much enjoy your sketches (and paintings of course), but what is Biro?
You have inspired me to try to sketch people on the train I ride every day, and this makes me even more impressed with your results as I find it quite difficult (besides the fact that I don't have much experience drawing). Not only do they move around alot, but often they will spot me sketching them and start to look at me. And that makes me so self conscious that I stop, I guess I need to get more confident or more sneaky...
How much time do you spend on a sketch?

I hope that you know how much I love your art!!!! When I was in HS, my art teacher gave me a book to use to learn to draw BETTER in pencil. OK, YOU do NOT learn to draw better, but I think you would enjoy looking at this book. It's by Paul Calle "The Pencil". Go to the library or something just to check it out. You remind me SO much of him!!!!!:)

Thanks Pegi! I HAVE GOT THE BOOK!
It has been an inspiration to me! Sometimes I just go book hunting -in bookstores, second hand bookstores and anywhere to get inspiration and I can never for get the day I pounced on this book-"THE PENCIL"-it was in a secondhand bookstore run by Oxfam Charity in London-I saw his strokes and what he did with the pencil and I just fell in love and I got it for a cheap price too!

Your self portraits are terrific. They're both searching and lively. Thanks for the inspiration.
