AFRO XIX, 13.5" x 9.5", Graphite/Charcoal, 2008 SOLD
This is number 19 in my current Afro series. My passion for graphite and charcoal some how takes over here, as I really try to express myself, and because it is not a commission, I feel a little bit on the free side. The emphasis of this series is the beauty of black natural hair and the model is a lovely little girl in my Sunday school class, she came just like this last Sunday.

OMYgosh this is such a moving portrait. It captures the innocence and the vibrancy of childhood.
Thanks Nicole! I don't always feel pleased after many pieces but this one just seemed to click right from the start, I didn't even start with a detailed drawing I just washed shapes of charcoal dust unto the paper, before I introduced the carbon pencil for the detailing after.
How I wish I could get this kind of feeling all the time, but alas there are only a few special moments to remembered and cherished!
