I'm so relieved to read your write up about all the sketches you did. I can't stop drawing portraits, its one a day at the moment. I have discovered charcoal and pastel pencils. I still have a long way to go but feel I'm improving each time.
Thanks "Painting 4 living"! Great drawings coming up on your site-always take note of the overall structure of the face-it will really help you to improve faster! Wish you the best!
Rohit, thanks, I am happy you see the truth in the quote!
Hi Adebanji, thanks for yr reply. What do you mean by the overall sructure? Do you mean face shape or the features. I was advised I was focusing too much on detail and needed to loosen up a bit so I started to do some charcoal sketches which seems to help. Cld I also ask when you sketch do you start with the head / face shape first or the features (eyes for example). The advice in books is always the shape and then I was watching some street artists and they seem to do the eyes first.
Thanks Painting 4 Living- I'll email you with a link to a site of a good old artist teacher called Fred Fixler, or you can check it on http://www.fredfixler.com/-go under the link Cave 22 and have a feast on the handouts available and you'll be basking in all the knowledge you need! He has said everything possible on structure that I could explain. Hope it helps.
