I recently sketched this guy in one of my previous posts.
These are some of the procedures I take when doing these drawings:
Here I have used the sanguine dust with a ghosting technique applied to the board with tissue paper and carefully I have used a an eraser to take out highlights as if I was painting with white.
Here I start to add detail with the Sanguine Oil base pencil, I like it because it doesn't get dusty and messy as the oil free version.

When you are discussing sanguine dust, is this a product you create by shaving a sanguine pastel stick? Have not heard of this, although I've shaved pastels.
I am supposing the emotion depicted here is awe...he looks as if he's seeing something beyond belief. Remarkable work.

well, its safe to say that you have inspired my to paint and draw. I'm now starting a project at my school, where i do a color version of my sketches, wich will ultimately result on a series of paintings: i will try to capture the overall emotions and habits fo the people i draw. Thanks Mona! I have shaved pastel sticks too, but this sanguine dust is actually a product. It is mabe by CRETACOLOR and the one I have is in a plastic container of 230g. They have the sepia version, charcoal version and graphite version. It was from the instructions on this product I learned about Oil base pencils and they have been a blessing ever since!
