Josh Watching WALL E, A3 sketchbook, carbon pencil, 2009

This time Josh is not sleeping, he is busy watching WALL E. Here I try to capture that serious concentration and pure attention he gives this beloved film.

I did this with my carbon pencil, which has some great qualities for achieving rich darks.

Must be his 'bestest' film then :-)

This is such a beautiful piece. You have a wonderful skill and gift.

He's such a handsome young man. A chip off the ol' block I'd say.

Wow. What can I really say? Well, first - as always - your faces are spectacular; at this point, I don't think I can say anything more on that without being redundant. It's to a point where it's beginning to reveal the portrait of a very sensitive and attentive artist :). You captured his focus very well, and the lighting on his head shows each individual detail of the unique contures and...directions?, of his hai lines.

The shadows on his chair are, again, very well done, even if you left a few-too-many spaces in the shadow lines along the bottom side of the chair. Also, it's hard to tell what his loxer body is doing underneath the armchair. Still, nearly flawless, and the sombre shading of the page works well with the atmosphere you captured.
