Highlights from the Royal Institute of Oil Painters Exhibition (Open Painting Evening) 2011

Adebanji's painting and the model

This post is well overdue but I got caught up in the festive flush and couldn't do it on time. Now that it's winding up, I have been able to catch up with blogging and this had to be the first post up on my list.
This event took place on Thursday 15th December from 6pm to 9pm. It was the busiest night I have witnessed since attending this event in 2007. It affords anyone the great opportunity to paint alongside ROI members or just come in as a spectator.
Please bear with me, these are only about 30% of the artists present, it wasn't easy to paint and also move around to record the night's event, as there were easels packed everywhere, with spectators around every easel and very little space to 'breathe'.

There were 3 models on the night. Peter Wileman the President, Ian Cryer's Daughter and Peter Wileman's Daughter. I painted Ian Cryer's daughter and I really enjoyed the whole process. None of these models are professional but I must say, they were well professional on the night. David Pilgrim, an Associate member who painted Peter Wileman said, "He never moved a muscle".

These are some of the artists that I managed to catch on the night, I hope you enjoy! I have caught some of their paintings, sometimes I love to show them painting(which adds spice to the post) and also their palettes-I THINK PALETTES ARE WONDERFUL, ONE OF MY SECRET LOVES.

All the artists here are unique in their approach and I hope you take your time to observe even the minute details.

Highlights from the Royal Institute of Oil Painters Open Painting Evening

It was another great evening with members painting along side non-members. As usual we had three models to paint and the whole scenario was electric!

This is the finished version of the model I painted on the night.

Because of the weather this year we had to leave 40 minutes before the usual time, but that was no hindrance as the works produced were all great, with each having an individual touch in flowing alla prima!

This is my palette set up for the painting above while in progress. I finished the rest at home from a photo.

These are few pictures taken on the night, I couldn't take as much as I used to, as time was against us.

DAVID CURTIS

David's palette!

David's final stage of the model- I'm sure he'll finish up later on, like I did.

DAVID PILGRIM

David with his winning piece for the night!! It won him £150 worth of Art materials from Winsor & Newton. Congratulations David!! This is another award well deserved!

Roger knocked this off, only after 30 minutes!!!!!

LUIS MORRIS

Luis Palette-note the number of colours- not so many, but he always produces loads of mixtures from this simple palette!

Luis' painting on the night-I love the sense of space!

TITUS AGBARA

Titus with his painting

This is Titus' painting box- look out for those alkyd oil paints- he uses the fast drying colours- NB-He paints only with various palette knives.
