NANA Lawson

This woman is inspirational I have decided to paint her on her 60th birthday! She is the one one who takes care of all new born babies in my church and she also is the chief cleaner in my church. Her ministry in outstanding. Her faithfulness is admirable.
God bless her.
I had to finish this under 4 days to meet the deadline for this saturday when her grandchildren would present it to her.

Kimberly

This is Kimberly, my friend Dave at work kept being on my neck to sketch him the only recent picture he had of his daughter- to put in his room wall. So on Thursday last week with a sanguine coloured pencil I sketched it without grids in 2 hours ! He was really pleased with it!

Sketches on the train (Elephant and Castle to Clapham Common)

This woman was dresed in one of those traditional wears the Asian women put on. I couldn't resist. I also didn't want to get into trouble with her husband who was on my side. So I had to do it with the "hide and seek technique "- watch his movements in the window reflecting his image in front of me without turning my head. I was quite pleased with the result. She was busy reading an Asian magazine.

Sketch on the train (NottinghillGate to Earls Court)

She was right in front of me but my confidence soared. Sometimes you take big risks when you are addicted to sketching, I had to take one this time I took the bull by the horn while listening to music.

Sketch on the train (Greenwich to Abbey Wood)

On my way back from work yesterday night I had to stand up, With my sketch pad in hand I made one sketch of a woman standing then when I had the opportunity to sit down I sketched this lad in front of me. He has some interesting features and I enjoyed the feel of the conte I used as I normally use biros this was a change for me. I showed him on his way out at Abbbey Wood, he looked a bit stunned!

Portrait of little boy

I have a got a friend(Chrissey) at work, she always loves my pictures, she brought up this picture of a little boy she said was her grandson.

I loved the play opf light on his features and I made a 2 hour sketch of the picture she provided.

This seemed to be one the first times that I didn't need to scale the picture but I just went direct with intuitive measurements and it came out quite ok.

Chrissey loved it

SUMMER SCENE

I got into painting a summer scene of Tottenham Court Road area this month, it seemed to be one of my first watercolours this year and I really enjoyed the outcome.

I love figures in the street, clusters of people although this one wasn't that crowded it still gave me that thrill to experiment with.

I took pictures. loads of pictures and I had a hard time looking through to find which one really fit the kind of summmer scene I wanted to portray.

The Watercolour paper was provided by the Artsit's magazine for a competition.

Hope I get some thing out of it!

I couldn't just stick to the watercolour, I ended up adding acrylic, coloured pencil and ink so the resultant effect was in mixed media, the size A4.

Recent self portrait- My struggles

I have always struggled with self- portraits and this one was no exception - I often always get the top of my head wrong or some line or the other.

This time I had it in mind to do three heads in one piece. I have been inspired by Robert Liberace and and Alex Powers, when it came to taking this work on. I kept on loooking for the right technique or composition plan to tie the three heads toghether but it kept on looking wrong. Then I finally came up with the kind of "tie" that shows the colours that I love and the kind of freedom that I love to express myself with. Sometimes you can only take such liberties with your self. I have titled it BLAZE AND SHADE ! Which is what I felt it looked like when I finished.

This work is in oil and on a 24" by 30" canvas.
It was purely experimental., after two weeks of trial and error.

Two drawings of Josh

These are two drawings I did of my boy Josh, in Graphite on a very weak Cartridge paper, He had just started crawling and I wanted to catch those akward movements he was used too and sometimes stopping and giving up. It was kind of experimental.

I used the graphite in a watercolour way, by grinding the stick to powder and using a brush to paint from pictures I took of him.

One of the drawings was exhibited at the Pastel Society this year at the Mall Galleries.

Both of these drawings are included in a book called "Strokes of a Genius" which has drawings from 100 artists worldwide. This book is published by Northlight Books in August 2007

http://www.koladeoshinowo.com/gallery.html
This man taught me pictorial composition while I was studying at Yaba College of Technology. He ia a master and thats all can say. You can click on the link above to see his paintings on his website.

He always encouraged us to work hard. I can never forget the first time when I was opportuned to listen to him introduce us to studying Art in the school- He made us know that artists with talent don't do well here but the hardworking artist. That has stuck with me today.

Sketch of my friend "SCOUSE"

This drawing of "Scouse" was done yesterday evening at work, he had been on my neck to sketch him for a while and this was the evening it had to be done.
I used a page from my A4 daler-Rowney sketch pad, HB Graphite pencil, Tissue, Putty rubber, Artificial light source, Radial Easel.
It took me approx 1 hour 30mins to complete and he was a very composed model, except for his occasional drifting which had an effect on the finished picture. He didn't like the sleepy look to his eyes, so I had to work on that by letting him pose again this time -trying his best to keep his eyes wide open! He was pleased with the finished piece and I was quite pleased to catch a bit of his character in the sketch.
He is a very pleasant chap and and an ardent lover and supporter of LIVERPOOL FC!

This is my second series of the Rush Hour paintings and It took me about 2 weeks to complete. I relly enjoy these crowded scenes as it gives me the opportunity to put into the paintings, the feelings I have, whenever I use the underground everyday and see the many people just going and coming, it really inspires me how differnt we all are!
